I am so excited to be teaching fourth grade this year with such an amazing team of teachers. My education career spans over 20 years and covers teaching experience at all grade levels, K-8. After the completion of my graduate degree from NCSU in 2008, I worked as a writing specialist and literacy coach. Last year, I taught fourth grade ELA here at FPDE. I currently have teaching licenses in elementary education, reading, and curriculum design.
My oldest daughter, Taylor, is a rising senior at ECU studying Public Health. My youngest, Sydney, is entering her freshman year at NC State studying Sustainable Materials and Technology. I grew up in Wilmington, but have lived in the Wake Forest area for 18 years.
My educational philosophy is one of high standards and expectations combined with a variety of challenging opportunities. I strongly believe that if a teacher provides a strong model, appropriate support, specific feedback, respect and compassion that students can soar to great heights and be life long learners.
Parents, teachers and students are partners in all educational endeavors. We share a common goal and through mutual respect and dedication our students will find success.
I'm looking forward to a great year learning together!

Flexible Seating
In our reading and writing classes in fourth grade we are implementing a strategy called flexible seating. Your child will not have an assigned seat/desk. Instead they are free to choose from bungee chairs, pillows, small tables, large tables, crates, stools, etc. Research indicates that flexible seating:
1. Helps students’ attention spans which results in higher achievement
2. Make students more actively engaged in the classroom
3. Gives them an active outlet without disrupting their learning
4. Motivates students
5. Helps those with ADHD and Autism, along with other special needs
6. Helps develop a sense of community and improves social skills
7. Helps students become independent learners
This method will allow your child to do their BEST learning. We will guide the students how to choose a spot that is most conducive to their learning style. If you have any questions, please contact us. We are looking forward to a great year!
