I am excited to be your 4th grade teacher. I joined the Forest Pines Family in 2013. This is my 13th year teaching, before 4th grade I taught kindergarten. I love fourth grade!
I grew up in New Jersey. Since getting married I have lived in Virginia, California, and North Carolina. My husband and I have two children, both of whom graduated from UNC Chapel Hill. Jackson lives in Brooklyn, NYC and works for a social media analytics company. Our daughter, Kristin, lives in Nashville, TN working an entertainment marketing firm. We also have a schnoodle named Lucy.
I believe by working together as a team (parent, student & teacher) we can provide the best possible education for your child. I will do my part to create an environment in the classroom where students feel they can succeed and are valued. Together, we can make this a great school year.
I can’t wait to spend the next year learning and growing with you!
I am always looking to get additional supplies for my classroom. Please check out our grade level DonorsChoose projects. If you are so inclined, we'd love to have your support.
A few of my favorite things:
Food: Mexican (Gonza's & Moe's)
Candy: chocolate
Book: Wonder by R.J. Palacio
Subject: reading
Color: green
Sports Team: UNC & UVA
Fast Food: Moe’s & Panera
Animal: dog
Hobbies: running, sewing, crafting & reading
Stores: Target, Loft, Barnes & Noble & Quail Ridge Books

Flexible Seating
Fourth grade has flexible seating. Your child will not have an assigned seat/desk. Instead they are free to choose from bungee chairs, pillows, small tables, large tables, crates, stools, etc. Research indicates that alternative seating:
1. Helps students’ attention spans which results in higher achievement
2. Make students more actively engaged in the classroom
3. Gives them an active outlet without disrupting their learning
4. Motivates students
5. Helps those with ADHD and Autism, along with other special need
6. Helps develop a sense of community and improves social skills
7. Helps students become independent learners
This method will allow your child to do their BEST learning. We will guide the students how to choose a spot that is most conducive to their learning style. We are very excited to try this in our classrooms this year. If you have any questions, please contact us. We are looking forward to a great year!

Class Dojo
What is Class Dojo?
- Class Dojo is our classroom behavior management system.
- Each day students will come in and check in for attendance on Class Dojo. They must check in, in order to earn points for the day.
- Your child will be able to earn positive points, as well as negative points. (S)he can earn positives points in a lot of different ways! I try to maintain a positive classroom atmosphere, therefore I assign as many positive points as I can each day. In addition to positive points, students can be given negative points. There are several ways that students can earn negative points. See the list below for examples of positive and negative points.
