Remember your child needs to be at school by 6:25 on 4/5 Calhoun/Foster & 4/6 Brooks/George and picked on at 7:15 pm.
You need to pack a lunch & GENEROUS snack in disposal bags.
Students can bring a camera (no tables, phone, ipads, electronics), books to read, cards, etc.
The “Island and Sound Exploration” program is designed to introduce students to the coast and its wonders. Marine educators will be aboard to add insights to our discoveries as the students take part in a broad array of hands-on experiences that make learning exciting. We will head through salt marshes and the Intercoastal Waterway before landing directly on Masonboro Island. Most of the program’s activities take place on this pristine barrier island as we explore the diverse biology of the beautiful beach, marsh and a tidal creek.
Activities: Program activities may include (depending on tidal conditions):
- Digging for clams - investigating the marsh with nets
- Shell collecting & ID - catching crabs on hand lines
- On deck interpretation of findings - scavenger hunts
- Sea turtle studies
Math Info
*MATH NIGHT IS APRIL 7TH! Be looking out for a form to RSVP for Moe’s that night! Dinner will be provided only for those who return the RSVP by Thursday, March 24th.
**We are noticing that there are many students who are still struggling with multiplication facts. PLEASE help your student learn these at home. Math in 4th grade gets very difficult if you don’t know your facts very quickly. THANKS IN ADVANCE!
***Students can use Front Row or Moby Max to practice and supplement instruction at home.
Math Homework- enjoy SPRING BREAK!
ELA
Please have your child continue to read over break. They can also complete Achieve activities! Remember the requirement for the month of March is to pass 8 activities. You received parent login information a couple of weeks ago, you can check your child's progress. The top 3 students with highest lexile growth in each class get a bead to add to their necklaces in class! The more they read the better readers they become.
Spring Carnival
Our Annual Spring Carnival is April 30th. Your child has another letter in his/her Friday folder containing details as well as information about the basket your homeroom will be putting together for the raffle. As always, thanks for supporting our FPDE PTA and our children.
FIELD DAY
Forest Pines Families,
Field Day at Forest Pines Elementary is an event where students and teachers get to celebrate their accomplishment by letting out a little energy at the end of the year.
K-2 Thursday, April 7th 3-5 Friday, April 8th
Last years theme was “Once upon a Field day...” this year there will be a Super Hero theme at Field Day. Students are encouraged to dress like their favorite Super Hero. If they do not have a favorite then you can wear a cape and come up with your own character. Students are encouraged to dress up as a super hero for Field Day. Please be aware that it may be hot and to only wear a costume if you will be comfortable. Please bring a change of clothes just in case (students may get wet or dirty on the field.) For safety reasons, please do not wear a cape that reaches the ground. If you do not have a costume, please feel free to just wear a t-shirt!
Dress Safety
-Students can still dress down even if they are not dressed like a super hero.
-Please remember to wear tennis shoes and socks.
-If you are wearing a cape, please do not tie around your neck. Please make sure it is held by velcro, snap buttons, or a clothes pin. Please do not attach with a safety pin.
-If wearing a full costume, please have a change of clothes underneath because of the heat.
-Please do not bring in any play weapons of any kind.
Attention: Parents help is needed!!!!!
Water stations are essential for the students throughout the day that way they stay hydrated- if you could donate DIXIE CUPS that would be extremely helpful!
Other misc items: sidewalk chalk, bubbles or tattoos. These are a great addition to field day break/resting stations.
Lastly, what I really need from parents is if you could volunteer any amount of time either of those days it would be greatly appreciated. I have put together a Sign Up Genius that you may sign up for certain time slots (Thursday or/both Friday).

Feel free to email me with any questions.

EOGs
Dear Parents,
I am writing to ask for your help and support of Forest Pines Elementary with its end of year testing process. For each testing group we are required to have a trained administrator and trained proctor. We also like to have trained proctors available in the event of emergencies in the testing areas, hopefully preventing the need for an entire class being required to retake their EOG exams. There is no way to complete this undertaking without the support of our dedicated Forest Pines Families.
Please thoughtfully consider volunteering some of your time to help Forest Pines make this a smooth process for students and staff. Even if you do not have children in the testing grades (3-5) we still welcome your help in this process. Being a volunteer may consist of monitoring the hallways during the test or being the proctor in a room helping to monitor test compliance. Volunteers would need to be available from 9:20 to around 12:30 on testing days (Beginning May 26th), be willing to attend one of the mandatory EOG training sessions, and be a registered volunteer with the Wake County School System.
If you are willing to consider volunteering during this very important time please email your child’s teacher or Jen Giandenoto (the testing coordinator) [email protected]. After sending your name and contact information, I will give you information on the training sessions and a calendar of testing days. Please feel free to volunteer as few or as many days as you like.
Thank You!
Jen Giandenoto-Romano
