Bistro Day. You are invited to “Bistro Day” to buy lunch (turkey breast/stuffing/roll or chicken nuggets) and eat with your child (during our lunch time 1:05-1:40) on Thursday, December 3rd RSVP due 11/23. Click here for more information and RSVP.
Scholastic Book Orders. November and December order forms were sent home today in Friday folders. Scholastic books make great holiday gifts. If you are interested in ordering books for your child, and do not want them to know, contact your child’s reading teacher and they can hold the books for you when they come in. We will be doing an outreach project in December. We will be wrapping books and donating them to a local hospital for children who have to spend their holidays in the hospital. The teachers will be using their bonus points to purchase the books from Scholastic. We earn points when you buy books for your child. You can also help by purchasing books from Scholastic and donating them to the project or sending money that we can use to purchase books. Thanks so much for helping with this project.
Homework Update.
POW: Students are now able to do their Paragraph of the Week online, if they prefer. The were taught how to do this in class. They will access the prompt through google classroom. they will need to have google doc and google drive on their device, if they are using a tablet. The topic for this week is “Something that makes me sad is…..”
Achieve 3000: Students should be completing AT LEAST two quizzes on Achieve 3000 for homework each week. Their username and password is WCP, followed by their lunch number with no spaces (ex: wcp11111). www.achieve3000.com
Supplies. Please do a supply check with your child. Many students are running out of pencils and erasers. Thanks so much.
BYOD Update. Fourth graders are progressing well with their use of technology in the classroom. If your child is using a device other than a laptop, please make sure they have downloaded google classroom, google doc, and google drive. They will be using these apps for the rest of the year for a variety of purposes. We are gradually introducing them to tools they can use, both and home and at school, to improve their learning experiences. They have learned to use Google Apps and NearPod. Next week, we will be introducing them to KidBlog and they will be creating their own blogs. The goal is that they will eventually do their reading responses on this blog, which will allow them to provide feedback to each other and communicate digitally about the texts they read. The students (and teachers) are very excited about incorporating more technology into the classroom. If you would like to learn more about BYOD at our school and/or sign up to receive our BYOD newsletter, visit www.fpdesbyod.weebly.com.
There have been some incidences of students texting during school. Per the BYOD contract, device privileges were suspended indefinitely. BYOD expectations were reviewed with all students today. Please have a conversation with your child about the fact that BYOD is a privilege and continue to monitor your child's device.
Field Trip. Our American Indian Education Day field trip is this Friday 11/20. If you have signed up to chaperone, you will be receiving an email on Monday with more information. We will be back to eat lunch at school at 1:30. Please be sure your child gets to school time, so we can leave promptly.
